With a sincere love for Balinese food, Tulen adds a touch of magic to traditional dishes as well as international favourites.
Sitting pretty on Sri Wedari Street, Tulen is situated in the middle of rice fields, a quick ride up north from Royal Ubud Palace. The windowless restaurant lets in a welcome, refreshing breeze and overlooks acres of lush rice paddies. With twisting vines and eye-catching flowers covering every square inch of the ceiling, Tulen will bring you closer to Ubud's stunning nature than ever before.
Start your Balinese adventure with a traditional ceremonial duck lawar or goat shank soup. Move on to a nourishing plate of roasted pork belly with purple cassava mush or grilled tuna steak with famous sambal matah and baby eggplants in coconut oil. Alternatively, choose something straight from the “off Bali” section like handmade feta spinach ravioli, liver pate, confit pork belly, grilled beef tenderloin or tripe parmigiana.
The menu caters well for vegans and vegetarians as well – Pho chay and Pad Thai makes an appearance, as well as an Indian platter, lasagna and the ultimate vegan burger.
Stick to the theme and polish it all off with homemade kombucha, jamu (traditional turmeric drink) or a bottle of Balinese craft beer!
