It's an airy haven away from Bali's signature hustle and bustle. Painted with soothing neutral tones, this open-plan dining restaurant restores and revives diners with all-natural textures like bamboo sticks, solid oak and rattan, pairing these elements with luscious potted greens, engulfing sofas and homey rugs. Fitted with floor-to-ceiling windows too that overlook the pristine garden, The Suku welcomes all the elements that bring life to our planet.
If it's not this caring community that brings you back time and again, it will be the food. They're going down the Mediterranean route, reimaging classics with a Balinese twist. Up first are the starters that are intricate and thoughtfully put together. First, we have the vegetarian parmigiana with eggplant and zucchini, then a delicate fish crudo with basil oil, a calamari bisque and beef tartare that simply melts on the tongue alongside a cheeky dash of truffle aioli.
Moving on and we have fresh linguine with calamari or a freshly blitzed tomato sauce, both of which serve as delicious primi before the main event. Here, Suku doesn't hold back, serving marinated lamb rack that falls right off the bone, grilled red snapper in a lemon beurre blanc sauce and the almighty grilled ribeye with feisty chimichurri. Such Mediterranean feasts demand a crisp glass of white, or at least a tiramisu to round off the occasion. At Suku, soul food never looked so good.
